TJ Maxx Finds: TAKEYA versus HYDRAPEAK

In the summer of 2019 I was exploring the clearance aisle in TJ Maxx and came across this adorable yellow stainless steel 18 oz water bottle from Takeya. I loved the color, which is honestly more of a pastel yellow than it looks in the photos on their website, and although it was smaller than what I was looking for, at $12.99 on clearance I could not pass it up. This water bottle has been a favorite of mine since the very first use.

Having cats, I can't go to bed with a glass of water unless I plan on sharing it with them. So, the fact that I can throw a couple of ice cubes in it, and the water is still cold when I wake up in the middle of the night with my mouth feeling like the Sahara Desert, earns this water bottle some big bonus points.

On their website, Takeya claims that their water bottles keep ice cold liquids cold for 24 hours and steaming hot liquids hot for 12 hours. I have not actually tested their claim, but I am positive that after 24 hours the liquid is not exactly ice cold. I can't tell you the number of times I have left this bottle in my car overnight and when going to take a drink from it the next day the liquid is most definitely not still ice cold. If I had to guess I would say it holds temperature for cold liquids for approximately 12-15 hours. Regardless of that, I have to say this is probably the best stainless steel water bottle that I have ever purchased. I also have a Yeti that I was given as a gift a few years back and I can confidently say that this bottle performs better than the Yeti. The biggest downfall of this particular bottle is that it is only 18oz so I find myself filling it up quite a few times a day, and doesn't make it very practical for traveling. That's not to say that I couldn't just purchase a larger one from their website, but I'm a girl who loves a good bargain and if I don't have to pay full price, why would I!?

On my first trip to TJ Maxx post Coronavirus quarantine, I came across this 32 oz stainless steel water bottle from Hydrapeak for $15.99. Not only did that price include the bottle, but it also included three lids and two straws. I loved the price and the color, and the sizing was more in line with what I was looking for. Hydrapeak also claims that their water bottles keep ice cold liquids cold for 24 hours and steaming hot liquids hot for 12 hours. Unfortunately, I have to say I am incredibly disappointed in this bottle. In the morning as I head into work I fill it to the rim with ice and then add cold water. Within 4-5 hours the ice is completely melted, and within 7-8 hours the water is room temperature. I wanted so badly to love this water bottle since it was such an amazing deal, but it is just a huge disappointment!

I think at this point I may just have to bite the bullet and go for the full priced 32 oz Takeya bottle for $34.99! I'm thinking of getting it in white because I have a Yeti mug in white and love how classic and clean it looks. If anyone has any recommendations for me before I go for it, I would love to hear them!

My hydtapeak still has ice in it from two days ago and it's been warm here.

Have you tried Hydro Flask? (I see them in my local TJ Maxx and Marshalls at times if I'm lucky) I discovered this brand when we were in Hawaii a few years back, and everyone and their children were carrying this water bottle. I like their colors better than Takeya's, and I'm amazed how long it can keep icy water cold and icy! Thank you so much for this post! I enjoyed reading it! (I always wondered about HydraPeak water bottles because I see them often at TJ Maxx/Marshalls.)
